JD Power announced the results of 2009 JD Power Asia Pacific India Vehicle Dependability Study.Toyota and Ford emerged as winners in two representing category.Ford declared as winner in SUV and entry midsize segment,whilst Toyota crowned in MUV/MPV and premium midsize segment.Maruti and Honda shared other spots.2009 JD Power Asia Pacific India Vehicle Dependability Study
The study, which measures the dependability of three-year-old vehicles, ranks vehicles in 10 segments and examines
more than 150 problem symptoms across nine categories: vehicle exterior; driving experience; features, controls and displays; audio and entertainment; seats; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC); vehicle interior; engine; and
transmission. Overall dependability is based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100), with
lower scores indicating a lower rate of problem incidence and higher long-term vehicle quality.
2009 JD Power Asia Pacific India Vehicle Dependability Study Results shown improvements when compared to 2008 results.The average number of problems reported per 100 vehicles this year is 290,which is 41 less than last year’s.In nameplate level Honda outshines others, the total number of problems reported in 100 vehicles are 159,their Japanese rival Toyota finished second in very tight race,only 14 problems more than Honda vehicles.
In compact segment,Maruti Zen reported only 211 PP 100 against the industry average of 303PP100.In this segment Maruti swept away silver and bronze as well.In entry mid size car segment Ford Ikon stood first with 220PP100 against the industry average of 330PP100.Maruti Esteem(295PP100) and Tata Indigo Marina(376PP100) declared as second and third spot winners.Ford has a reason to celebrate their premium SUV Endeavour reported the least number of problems 75PP100 in all the segments and variants.The detailed scores in other segment has been shown in the graph.

2009 JD Power Asia Pacific India Vehicle Dependability Study Results brings some important revelations as well,the most reported problems are related to doors.Even though fuel economy issues reported in all segments but now this problem shows the sign of decline.Also the problems related to driving experience and engine related has recorded a sharp fall.Yet another finding 50% of the premium car owners opt for extended warranty,but only 28% of small car owners and 31%of mid-size car owners choose the extended warranty.

The declaration that American cars are narrowing the gap is somewhat misleading: While it is true, as a whole, they are making gains — the real numbers that matter to consumers is the individual cars in a particular class. For example, the top three classes of cars are: Truck, Mid-sized sedan, and SUV. Toyota dominates in these classes. Just because Americans can do cars that few people drive better — isn’t exactly the best accomplishment.
