Honda Insight was aimed to counter Toyota Prius. But Honda Insight’s mission was miserably failed, the latter topped hybrid car sales chart consistently. But Honda is not ready to leave the game. Now Honda Motor Co. is ready with a low cost hybrid solution. The new hybrid technology called Quixotic, will make the upcoming Honda Fit cheaper than current best seller Toyota Prius. This movement will lead to a price war between two Japanese auto majors.
Honda will be launching 2010 Fit Hybrid in Japan later this year. Nikkei, the Japanese business daily reported that Fit Hybrid will carry a price tag equivalent to $16,780. If this news is true, Fit Hybrid will be cheaper by $2,500 than Honda CR-Z sport car and $3,000 than entry level Honda Insight. If Nikkei report is to be believed 2010 Honda Fit will carry a premium of $1,880 over the entry level Honda Fit.
Though Honda Motor Co officials did not confirm any such developments, company CEO Tekeo Fukui said the company will “usher in an new era of affordability” for hybrids. It can be considered as an indication of the arrival of cheaper Hybrid Fit. So if both the companies are ready enter price war, the customer will definitely get a chance to fulfil their hybrid car dream without getting their purse too light.
