2010 Suzuki Alto/A-Star

Our initial impression is 2010 Suzuki Alto/A-Star clearly says that “ I am the bigger  brother of current A-Star”. The front facia is exactly similar to current version, the roofline and belt line are higher than our little A-Star.The front grille has undergone minor facelift, the separator of two piece grille  and the mesh behind the grill  are of new design.

The revamped tail lamp assembly looks better than our A-Star. It seems Suzuki has taken clues from their own Swift for designing tail lamp of 2010 Alto/A-Star. Though mechanically New Alto/A-Star grown, the power house lost some capacity.Other notable addition is embedding of turn indicators on rear view mirrors. The tail gate looks decent in new Alto, in Indian edition of Alto is biggest distraction.

The new Alto is powered by a 0.66ltr DOHC engine, but our A-Star is much advanced interms of engine technology. The KB-Series,3 cylinder engine is gem in  and the biggest advantage of A-Star. Hope our readers remember that Wheelosphere  had reported about  Maruti’s plans to unveil their hot selling Maruti Suzuki Alto and Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R with KB-Series engine in coming weeks.

The 2010 Suzuki Alto is available in five variants, one cargo and four passenger options. All variants are powered by above said 0.66DOHC engine. The manual gearbox is available in  both 4 speed and 5 speed variants. The feature list does not end there,Constant Variable Transmission(CVT) also present in two  top end models of New Alto.

Back  to India, even a school going kid will agree that India’s small car market is growing exponentially and Maruti is ruling more than 50 percent of the market. Also more and more manufacturers focussing on this market. Will Maruti be able to sustain their performance in future too? Can we expect this big brother of A-Star in upcoming  New Delhi Auto Expo?
