India bound Chevrolet Aveo sedan spied testing

With the next-generation Aveo hatchback and sedan, Chevrolet is targeting the Honda Jazz/Fit and its sedan version, the City. GM’s Chinese arm did the Chevrolet Sail/Viva hatchback and sedan combo that will also make its way to South America. That begs the question – Will Chevrolet bring the Aveo based twins or the Sail based twins? Our prediction is a difficult one to implement but GM India could bring both, four vehicles in all to India. While the Sail and its sedan will take care of the Indica Vista and Manza, the Aveo based cars are upmarket models targeted at the i20/Jazz and the City/Linea. The new Aveo sports enough design flair to take the fight to expensive models. It will fill the huge gap between Beat and the Cruze.

We featured the Aveo sedan’s rendering sometime back and several spy pictures including the patent drawings of the Aveo sedan and hatchback. Compared to the Korean Aveo (present model), the new one will be go global. The aggressive body kit of the concept has been replaced by conventional ones but the best bit is that the styling has been largely retained. Interiors will be a scaled down version of the split-cockpit found in the Cruze. The new Aveo now rides on GM’s new global Gamma II architecture which is capable of carrying a three door hatchback as well. Power will come from normal and boosted versions of GM’s 1.4L Ecotec engine. The new Aveo will go on sale in USA next January from its production base in Michigan.

Indian journey? Not far away. The Aveo twins in India are well past their age in India. So end 2011 doesn’t seem to be a difficult deadline.
