BMW X1 has got some solid competition
These are possibly the pictures of the 2011 model year Land Rover Freelander that is headed to India. The pictures have been leaked from a brochure. The vehicle wasn’t supposed to make its appearance till the Moscow Motor Show in August or the Paris Motor Show in September 2010. The baby Landie in the range, (until the Evoque arrives) is a very important model for LR as the Freelander is expected to take the CKD route and make it to India possibly by 2011. The new model sports a new face with minor changes to radiator grille, bumper, lights and wheels.
The Freelander is expected to come with a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine that produces 160bhp and is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a ‘Commandshift’ 6-speed automatic. At the current exchange rates, the Freelander range starts from Rs 15 lakhs in the UK and add some more to the Indian government as taxes. Realistically, we can expect the Freelander to hit the Rs 25 lakh mark and compete with the BMW X1. So is it German engineering or the good old British charm? The choice is yours.
