Allegedly, an image of the upcoming Passat has leaked courtesy Norwegian Newspaper Dagbladet. The newspaper goes on to say that they sourced the image from VW through a distributor. The image show a grown up Polo/downsized Phaeton design that has become a cliché among German firms right from VW to BMW to Audi to Mercedes Benz. As a result, the Phaeton looks a size bigger and sharper than the model that it is set to replace. We also showed you the earlier pictures of a leaked Passat courtesy Auto Bild but this one seems to be the read deal.
Between the two images, there are lots of similarities from the basic shape to smaller details like the chrome surround for the fog lamps and shape of the bumper. The entire body has gone in for a facelift with new panels. Changes are also expected to the interiors which include a new instrument condole, new steering materials and upgraded materials. The new Passat is expected to be shown at the Paris Motor Show beginning September 30. As we reported earlier, the new Passat will elevate itself and compete head-on against rivals like the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-class. Sales are expected to get underway in November, soon after its International launch. We expect the new Passat to step into the Indian subcontinent in early 2011.
