ABS in a car is no more a luxury rather it count as an essential requirement of any modern automobile. While occupants of cars got additional safety of Air bags, Anti Lock Braking(ABS) and other high end technologies, for motorcyclists those features were a dream. Now at least ABS for motorcycle is no more a dream, Bosch has been developed a workable model of ABS system for high end motorcycles.

Bosch’s ABS 9 Anti-lock braking system for motorcycles has been believed to be the smallest, lightest and cheapest ABS system in the world. Dr Werner Struth, president of Bosch Chassis Systems division, said: “The design makes it affordable for all classes of motorcycle for the first time. We are trying to make this life-saving technology widely available as quickly as possible. The command module for the system weighs only 700g.”
There is no breakthrough technology developed to make ABS technology workable in motorcycles. They used conventional slotted disc and infrared sensor combination to gauge the speed and control the hydraulic pressure on brake discs. Currently nearly 80 percentage of the cars built in the world are using ABS technology but this technology is yet to get momentum in two wheelers. So now we can wait and see who will be the first motorcycle manufacturer who adopt ABS for their product line up!
The most interesting aspect is this new technology brakes can be used in conventional brake equipped bikes as well.
