Volkswagen is getting ready to launch the next-generation Beetle and signaling that is this test mule. This is the first time we are coming across the new Beetle which VW claims would be more modern and dynamically better than its predecessor. The new Beetle is still in the prototype stage and as expected, it is very similar to the Ragster concept that VW showed back in 2005.
The roof is flatter and those trademark arches are now gone. Also noticeable are the new fenders that are much more prominent and the raked rear end. In our opinion, the new Beetle moves closer to the original design. It will be based on the new Golf platform. To keep up with its new found dynamics, the Beetle will get all sorts of engines from a 1.2L 1120bhp TSI to a 2.0L TDI diesel. With the present Beetle turning out to be a huge success in India despite its high price, VW might even look to assemble it in India to bring costs down further but will they do it? Over to you VW.
