We are all aware of the fires that plagued Nanos in the recent past. Tata even called on several experts to confirm that nothing was wrong with the car. However, on Monday, another Nano had developed some glitch and there was smoke observed from the rear end. The Nano in question belongs to Ahmedabad based Rakesh Shah. Thankfully, his friends splashed water over the rear end of the vehicle to prevent any further mishap. Rakesh Sharma, no doubt was shocked. Tata Motors say that the vehicle might have a wiring defect. Had this Nano too burned, then that would have taken the total number to 7.

The company, in its defence said
“The incident in Ahmedabad is being investigated and necessary steps will be taken. The company officials could start the car and drive it to our dealership. This indicates that there is no major issue with the car. Preliminary checks have found that there was no fire, only smoke.”
So far, six Nanos have reported similar faults and five were completely gutted. Tata Motors attributes the smoke to a fault in the combination switch area. Since May, the company has asked dealers to fix individual appointments with car owners for inspections.
The company spokesperson added,
“As for the earlier incidents, we have already said a 20-member internal team and an independent forensic expert undertook a comprehensive investigation related to the cause of fire and the conclusion of the investigation is that the Tata Nano is a safe car.”
