Hyundai is on a roll following the release of two of its mainstream sedans – the new Verna/Accent and the Elantra/Avante which follow the ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design philosophy. Following these two brilliant cars, we have got hold of what we suspect are the pictures of a new hatchback based on the Accent/Verna platform in undergoing testing in China. Although heavily camouflaged, what lets the cat out of the bag are small details like the car’s body size, wheels and interiors that are similar to the sedan model.
The new Verna/Accent and i20 are built on the same platform although we expect the Verna/Accent hatchback to move one notch higher, maybe into the i30 territory. If this is the new hatchback based on the Verna/Accent, then we can expect similar levels of styling and this would be the first hatchback to sport Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design if it saw the light. From the heavy camouflage, we can say that the model is in its initial stages of test. The real deal will be shown later and is expected to sport similar dimensions as the sedan.
The addition of a Verna/Accent based hatchback means that Hyundai will have a hatchback in varied sizes not to mention the new low cost $5000 car that they are developing for emerging markets. As with the Hyundai-Kia group, we can also expect a Kia model with a different nose in the future. The No 1 spot for Hyundai-Kia isnt too far away is it?
