Bajaj Pulsar 135LS is now India’s second largest performance bike

Bajaj Auto’s sales are slowly increasing thanks to stunning sales of its Discover 110cc and its new Light Sports offering, the Pulsar 135LS. Launched just 100 days ago, this power packed bike has catapulted to take the tag of India’s second largest selling performance bike. The Pulsar 150 still retains its top spot after several years and heavy competition selling an average of 26,000 units every month while the 135LS manages 25,000. Combine them and the Pulsars now dominate the performance segment with sales of over 60,000 units per month in the domestic market alone. What an achievement it has been. Bajaj are on the right track tor each their 1 million sales of the Pulsar brand by FY 2010-11.

S. Sridhar, CEO-2Wh, Bajaj Auto said “Overwhelming appreciation by the college youth has contributed in achieving this landmark for us. This can be attributed to the Pulsar 135’s cutting edge technology combined with great looks and features. The highly encouraging performance of Pulsar 135 LS will surely allow us to reach our goal of selling one million Pulsar vehicles by FY 10-11.”

The moniker LS stands for Light Sports and as it says, the bike produces an impressive 13.5bhp from its 135cc 4-valve DTS-i mill. While that may not sound much, combine it with a feather light 122kg kerb weight (which is about 20 kgs lighter than the 150), and you end up with a power to weight ratio of 110.6ps/tonne and performance that can match several 150s. The light weight also endows it with agile handling. What’s more, it costs just Rs 53,000 Ex-Delhi which is a whole Rs 8,000 cheaper than the 150 which makes it a great bargain.

Moreover, the 135 has bagged its fair share of awards – the ET NOW-Zigwheels Bike of the Year, the UTV Bloomberg-AutoCar Bike of the Year as well as the Viewers Choice award. Bajaj have a definite winner on their hands. They just need to make sure they don’t phase out bikes like they used to. One day its there and the next day its gone.
