BMW India launched their cheapest product in our market, 520d at Rs. 36.9 lakh, ex-showroom all India. This is the fifth engine variant of BMW 5 Series sedan. The F10 520d will replace E60 525d in the lower rung of BMW product ladder. As the former version comes cheaper by 3lacs, BMW has done away with many interior features like paddle shifts and 6CD changer. A BMW F10 520d owner has to get satisfied with a very basic single CD MP3 player with auxiliary and USB ports.
The F10 525d is powered by a 2.0ltr diesel engine which is doing duty in E60 525d too. The engine can produce peak power of 184hp at 4000Rpm and maximum torque of 380Nm at 1750 rpm. This engine is coupled with an eight speed auto box. ARAI has certified BMW 520d’s fuel efficiency as 18.4kmpl. The engine is very quick, it can take a massive 520d to 0-100 speed in 8.1 seconds. After company’s cost cutting exercise BMW 520d lost it’s V-spoke alloy wheels, now it comes with star spoke alloy wheels which we see in base variants.
“The 5-series is the core model in our product portfolio. The new BMW 5 Series sedan, since its launch in April 2010, has successfully emerged as a leader in the luxury sedan segment in India.”, said Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India. BMW India will be assembling 520d from CKD kits in their Chennai plant.
BMW 520d is available in two trim levels, finewood trim ash grain brown and finewood trim fineline anthracite. BMW 520d would be available in a range of ten colours including alpine white, black sapphire, cashmere silver, deep sea blue, havanna, milano beige, space grey, titanium silver, imperial blue brilliant effect and sophisto grey brilliant effect.
