BMW will enter into the high-end two wheeler segment, one that it exit more than a decade back thanks to poor sales of its F650 superbike that was sold at over Rs 6 lakhs. Today, times have changed and BMW will launch their bikes (called Motorrad), specifically the R 1200GS, S1000 RR and K-series at thrice the price of the F650 or Rs 18 lakhs. BMW’s official dealers for their two wheeler range are Deutsche Motoren and Navnit Motors with three outlets at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengalooru. The bikes will be launched sometime in December 2010. BMW’s bikes sport horizontally opposed engines or the so called ‘flat’ engines that are also found in Subarus and Porsches. The bikes will be imported as CBUs from BMW’s facility in Berlin. Not much else is known at the moment but stay tuned to Wheelosphere for more updates.
