BMW X1 coming in early 2011

BMW will launch the much awaited entry level Premium Crossover X1 only in early 2011. Local assembly of the X1 will begin in November 2010 thereby giving BMW some buffer time in which to build up inventory and prepare their dealers for a full fledged launch. Along with that, BMW has announced ambitions plans for the Indian market that includes ramping-up production capacity, increasing dealership count and introducing financial services.

BMW India has ramped-up production capacity to 5,400 units per annum from 3,000 to keep pace with market growth. BMW’s Chennai facility has expanded and now occupies 40 acres of land, up from 19 acres earlier. A new vehicle dispatch centre will also be constructed inside the plant with a capacity of 1,000 vehicles. BMW’s investment will increase from the present 1.1 billion to Rs 1.8 billion by mid-2012. The number of employees will be doubled from the present 200 to around 400 by end of 2010. In addition, BMW will increase dealership count from 18 to 22 by adding dealerships in Indore, Surat, Bhubhaneshwar and Ludhiana. This would result in creation of 1200 new jobs in the dealer and service network in 2011.

By the end of this year, BMW will launch their Financial services arm in India. With that, BMW are expected to end 2010 on a high after launching the new X5, F10 BMW 5-Series, 330i and 320d Corporate this year.
