BMW X1 posts strong sales numbers since launch

The BMW X1 has silenced critics and rival automakers by posting impressive sales figures since its launch. BMW X1 made its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale in October. When launched, critics questioned the success of the smallest premium SUV yet. However, the X1 has responded by posting impressive sales figures. It overtook Audi Q5 to claim the spot of Europe’s highest selling premium SUV in the first six months of 2010.

BMW sold 55,550 units of the X1 in the first seven months of 2010 and 64,049 since its launch in October 2009. In Europe, BMW shifted 44,067 units of X1 compared to 43,660 for the Q5 beating it by a margin of 407 units. The Volvo XC60 (29,616 units), Land Rover Freelander (20,138 units) and the BMW X5 (16,565) rounded out the five top selling SUVs in Europe for the time period. The sales of the X1 are only rising – 11,483 units were sold in July alone pointing to a strong future for small premium SUVs.

As you read this, the X1 barely has any solid competition which will change once competition arrives in the form of the Audi Q3, Mercedes’ new baby, Land Rover Evoque and Saab 9-4x worldwide. In India, the X1 is expected in October and is expected to cost just Rs 25 lakhs.
