Chevrolet Beat Diesel has been finally made it’s debut in India. The diesel engine fitted Chevrolet Beat was an active discussion topic since it’s petrol variant’s launch in December 2009. The base variant Chevrolet Beat PS is priced at Rs.4.29 lakh while the top end model Beat LT with option pack will carry a price tag of Rs 5.45 lakh. The middle variants Beat LS and LT are priced at Rs 4.59 lakh and Rs 4.99 lakh respectively.
Chevrolet Beat diesel model is powered by a 1.0XSDE Smartech engine. This all new 3 cylinder engine, co-developed by GM and Fiat is a variant of highly acclaimed Multijet diesel motor from Fiat Group. Also it is the smallest diesel engine currently available in mass market. GM India claims that Chevrolet Beat Diesel will clock 24kms per every liter of fuel.
“There is not a comparable diesel car in this segment. So we are looking at the entire small car segment,” said Karl Slym, president and managing director, GM India.
With the launch of diesel variant, GM India expects a surge in Beat sales. Company projects a demand of 4,500 to 5,000 units for Beat Diesel. We think GM India has been priced Beat Diesel wisely. The base variant of Chevrolet Beat diesel is priced approximately Rs.20K lesser than Ford Figo diesel model. But Beat Diesel will miss many extras that you can find in Figo. While roomier interiors and a moderately powerful engine will make Figo more attractive, the futuristic exteriors may pull young crowd towards Chevrolet Beat.
So in short another affordable diesel hatchback is on offer.. let us wait and see for the results..
