GM Spark Electric, the electric version of Chevrolet Spark to hit Indian roads by next year. The Spark-Electric will be born from Joint Venture of General Motors and our very own Reva Electric Car manufacturers. Both of these partners are bullish about this small car and it’s market potential. In words of Mr.Karl Slym, “We are going to manufacture not in hundreds but in thousands the electric car we would be launching next year”

GM India officials say the electric variant of  Spark will not share much Reva elements except the core technology. The Chevrolet  Spark-Electric will continue to use  Chevrolet Spark fossil fuel variant body and other essential mechanical elements.GM have sold nearly 3.5lakh unit of Spark globally.

GM India is planning to lay solid foundation for electric vehicles in India. They have already initiated discussions with many oil companies in India to set up charging stations.Charging stations for Spark Electric will be set up in main  cities and highways.“We already have a joint venture with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for servicing our vehicles at some places, which can be replicated,” said Mr Slym.

Lack of infrastructure like charging stations was the road block for Reva in India. If General Motors India will be able to find a solution for this issue,it can act as a back born of India’s electric vehicle revolution.Chevrolet Spark Electric will initially run on locally developed battery cache.now the price tag hold the key, to know more about it we have to wait till  Spark-Electric launch.Stay tuned to wheelosphere  for further updates.
