Chevrolet’s user and eco-friendly oil filter in the Cruze

GM has launched the most user-friendly and easy to recycle oil filter in the Cruze range. Chevy will use such a type of oil canister for its Cruze, but only for the petrol engines versions. Normally, changing the oil filter involves taking your vehicle to the workshop but this is aimed at the core of the Do-It-Yourself market in USA.

Compared to conventional filters which are placed at the bottom of the engine, this specific type of cartridge type oil filter is present on top of the engine which makes it easy to change and it is drip free as well. This type of oil filters are found on two engines in the USA version of the Cruze – a 1.4L Ecotec Turbo and a 1.8L Ecotec. Made only from paper and plastic, it’s easy to recycle. Recycling canister style filters requires the metal housing and other elements, like the rubber seal, be cut away or separated but in this case, the housing for the cartridge style filter is part of the engine and never needs replacing. The housing also has a screw-on replaceable cap that eliminates the conventional canister-to-engine mating surface which is a potential source of leaks.

GM is most likely to bring in its petrol Cruze and we suggest GM bring in the 1.4L Ecotec Turbo for the Indian market.
