Exports of Maruti 800 going up

The Maruti 800 may already be a part of history in India but that hasn’t stopped Maruti from producing the iconic model. Although the numbers don’t suggest the actual sales figures, exports of the M800 has seen a massive 91.5% jump in the April-August 2010 YoY. If you are still wondering, there are loyal customers in countries like Algeria, Chile and Egypt who still but the M800. In August, Maruti exported as many as 1,075 units which is a massive increase of 355.5% YoY. Maruti Suzuki Indian Chairman RC Bhargava said “The (export) numbers are too small and I won’t attach any significance to it.”

Earlier in the year, the M800 pulled out of 13 metros as the company did not find it a sound business proposition to upgrade the almost three decade old workhorse. In its 26 year tenure, 28,00,000 M800s were made of which only 3,00,000 were exported. The M800 has lost out to its stable-mate Alto and the Nano.
