V12 engines will power the next-generation Ferrari and Lamborghini hyper-cars because of traditional preference of customers for normally aspirated engines. The two legendary marquees will abstain from making the shift towards forced induction for the next-gen hyper-cars. However, Ferrari will turbocharge its future V8 models. Ferrari boss Amedeo Felissa has hinted that the next Enzo will feature a V12, possibly with an electric motor. “That is why we are developing hybrid technology,” said Felisa. “Hybrid means we can protect the V12.”
Similarly, Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that the firm was looking at all major engine technologies although there are no plans to introduce turbocharging to reduce CO2 emissions and preserving performance. Lamborghini will control emissions by using lightweight materials.
