Ferrari given the nod to modify its engines

Ferrari’s engines were clearly not up to the reliability levels of rivals – Fernando Alonso’s twin engine failures in just four races have left his championship hopes fade. Alonso now has to complete the remaining season (which is 19 races in all) with just 4 engines remaining from the allotted quantity. When Ferrari began investigating the incident, they found that there was an intrinsic problem with the engine’s design, thought to be related to air consumption and leaking pneumatic valves.

Ferrari then applied for special permission from the FIA to modify their engines. The engines will make it to the Spanish GP. A statement by Ferrari said that it intends “to make some changes within the framework of the current engine regulations” that will be fitted to the engines to be used in Spain. Ferrari will also bring in their innovative F-Duct airflow system for the first time during the practice.
