Fiat 500 and 500C are bound to get a two cylinder engine. This new two cylinder engine labelled as TwinAir with pot size of 900cc can easily develop 85 horses at peak. Fiat 500 and 500 convertible with TwinAir engine will be hitting showrooms by September-2010. This engine is developed by Fiat’s R&D arm Fiat Powertrain Technologies by blending Fiat’s proven MultiAir system and specific fluid dynamics.
The latest TwinAir technology offers better fuel efficiency and 43% less polluting comparing to it’s peers. In addition to this new engine, Fiat will be officially launching Blue&Me – TomTom, an upgrade of Blue&Me system also in new Fiat 500s. Blue&Me – TomTom is a beautiful touch screen, but functionally a combination of multi-purpose display, GPS and mobile phone.
The news of new engine addition is very common, but this particular announcement has a special role play in Indian small car market perspective. Atleast we at Wheelosphere think so. Fiat has already announced their plans to launch a India specific small car by 2012. Now there is a very high possibility of this engine finding it’s place under Fiat India’s small car bonnet. If not this engine, a tweaked version of TwinAir engine may become the choice. Because we think this engine has got a perfect combination of all parameters that a normal Indian small car buyer is looking for. If that is the case, we can clearly say that Fiat India Small car is on right track and will meet the timelines as announced by them.
