Fiat launches Grande(r) version of Punto with 90bhp diesel engine

Fiat India today launched a more powerful variant of its hatchback, the Grande Punto today. The new Punto comes with the same 1.3L Multijet diesel engine that is now boosted by a Variable Geometry Turbocharger which helps produce 90bhp. The engine currently powers the Linea and Manza. The 90bhp Punto is priced at Rs 6.79 lakh Ex-Showroom New Delhi. Fiat claims that the 90bhp Punto achieves 20km/l.Incidentally, this could be the Punto sport (with the optional accessory package added of course).

Fiat India President and CEO Rajeev Kapoor said

The Punto is manufactured at Fiat-Tata’s 50-50 joint venture plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. Claiming that the 90bhp Punto is India’s most powerful diesel hatchback may be taking the game too far as even the i20 diesel produces 90bhp and let’s not forget the Getz diesel that churned out 110bhp when it was on sale.To continue its new avatar, the new Punto comes equipped with Dual Stage Airbags, ABS with EBD, Automatic Climate Control, Blue & Me technology, Integrated CD/MP3 player with USB, Alloy wheels with the widest tyres (in the category), Chrome plated door handles and swanky Red stitching on the seats.

What’s more, Fiat also offers a personalisation/accessory package that features a Rear Spoiler, Chrome Exhaust Tip, Stylish Body Decals, Sporty Aluminium Pedals, Leather Seat Covers & Punto branded Door Sill. This accessory pack shall provide discerning customers a ‘sporty feel’, along with the opportunity to stand out in the crowd.

Keeping in mind this very thought, Fiat India today unveiled its latest offering in the premium hatchback segment: the Fiat Grande Punto 90HP MULTIJET. Armed with a 1.3 litre Multijet engine, powered by a Variable Geometry Turbocharger, the car will be India’s most powerful diesel hatchback.
