Not to be left out of the competition, Fiat India launched to more variants of its Grande Punto. The 1.2L engine was only available in one trim level ‘Active’. Fiat India has now added two higher spec variants sporting the same 1.2L FIRE (Fully Integrated Robotised Engine). Fiat has taken advantage of the small car norms and pushed in 2 extra variants Dynamic and Emotion priced at Rs 4.57 and 4.87 lakhs Ex-Delhi taking the war in the 1.2L segment to new heights.
Fiat expects to double its sales to 50,000 units in 2010 from 24,000 last year. “The number of customers in the hatchback segment is growing in India and we want to tap the opportunity. We expect to double our sales from 24,000 units to 50,000 units by December this year,” Fiat India’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Rajeev Kapoor, told reporters here today.
Fiat India reported a 78% jump in sales figures for the month of February selling 2,335 units compared to the same period last year. “The hatchback segment has seen a 50 per cent growth last year in India. In fact, 60 per cent of car sales happen in this category and we have had a 5.5 per cent market share till now,” Kapoor said. He also added that “We are now looking at doubling our sales,”.
The Punto Fire launched today comes with a tilt steering, front power windows, fire prevention system and programmed service reminder in its entry level 1.2 Active variant. The higher trim levels Dynamic and Emotion add more features like rear defogger, rear wash/wipe, fog lamps, body coloured door handles, airbags etc.
