With Tata rushing the completion of its Sanand plant in Gujarat, the Nano will definitely hit its target delivery date in 2010. Also adding pace to the work is this – A top official from Durr India Pvt Ltd has confirmed that the Sanand plant will start producing the first fully robot-painted body of the Nano is June 2010.
Durr India Pvt Ltd is responsible for setting up the paint shop for the Nano. We have also come to know that the paint shop is one of the first units to get completed in the plant. It will start fully-robotised painting of the body of the Nano from June 2010.
“The Lean compact technology as we call uses robots to paint India’s small car and shall roll out the first body paint unit of Nano car in June,” Managing Director Paint and Assembly Systems Durr India Pvt Ltd Andreas Stedfled told.
A state of the art car requires state of the art equipment and the company will import all the required painting equipment including the automated robots from Germany at a total cost of 45 Million Euros. “The paint shop coming up at Sanand plant shall be having capacity to paint 60 body units per hour, and is capable of lowering the CO2 emissions at least by 47 per cent,” Stedtfled said.
The paint cycle time for a car under the lean compact concept has been considerably reduced as we have chosen rotational dipping process, Stedtfled said adding, “Its only a one loop process.” All we can pray for is that everything goes smoothly this time so that the Nano can start rocking as soon as possible.
