Ford Motor Co yesterday announced their electric vehicle plans. The first kid from Ford’s electric vehicle plan is Transit Connect a cargo van.This is 2.0ltr,four cylinder engine with ample space to store goods.Transit Connect will be imported from Turkey.In addition to Transit Connect,Ford is planning a Electric small car by year 2011 and a plug-in hybrid by 2012.
The Transit Connect will be powered by battery from Smith Electric Vehicles, who posses 90 years experience in converting conventional vehicles into electric.The expected mileage of electric Transit Connect is 100miles.Ford believes pure hybrids are the only way ahead to save environment.
Now Ford joins the legue of electric car manufactures like General Motors,Toyota and Chysler who have already firm plans in electric vehicle segment.Same time Ford is betting on government subsidies to promote electric cars.
Indeed a brave step at this difficult time.
