Ford Figo is ICOTY, Honda Twister wins IMOTY

Indian Car Of the Year 2011 Ford Figo

Indian Car of the Year 2011 and Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2011 awards were announced Yesterday. Ford Figo won Indian Car of the Year 2011 title while Honda Twister has been declared as Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2011. In ICOTY category Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Nissan Micra, Skoda Yeti, Tata Aria, Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento were shortlisted as finalists. In  motorcycle segment, for IMOTY 2011 award Bajaj Pulsar 135LS, Bajaj Discover 150, Honda CB Twister, Mahindra Stallio, TVS Jive and TVS Max4R were fighting for the crown.

In car category, Ford Figo emerged as  clear winner with 83 points while VW Vento (57 points),Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Yeti (37 points) had to settle with second and third spots respectively.

“Coming close on the heels of the Figo’s immense popularity with over 58,000 units sold in past eight months, this industry-wide recognition truly establishes it as a performance car. The critical acclaim from the experts reinforces the faith in Figo as one of the best products in its class available today,” said Ford India Chief Michael Boneham.

In motorcycle category, the award race was very close, Honda Twister with 66 points managed to win the title while Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS (63 points), TVS Jive (48 points) were declared as winners of second and third positions respectively.

“We are here to celebrate the achievements of the Indian automobile industry and to honour the focused and rigorous efforts made by auto makers in the areas of Design excellence and innovation and R&D. The ‘Indian Car of the Year’ and ‘Indian Motorcycle of the Year’ awards recognize the auto manufacturer with the highest level of performance in terms of product development, quality, timely delivery, competitive pricing, project management and customer service,” said Dr. Raghupati Singhania,  Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd.

The ICOTY 2011 and IMOTY 2011 awards  were declared by  a group of eminent Indian automobile journalists from various magazines. The judges of this year’s awards were Bertrand D’Souza and Shubhabrata Marmar (Overdrive), Girish Karkera and Debabrata Sarkar (Top Gear India), Aspi Bhathena( Car India-Bike India) Pablo Chaterji and Srinivas Krishnan (Business Standard Motoring) and Vikrant Singh (Auto Bild).
