Automobile major Ford has just announced its future plans for the Indian market and a global one at that. A top company official has pointed out that the firm will bring more global products to India. We already know that Ford announced the next-gen Fiesta sedan for India based on the European hatchback to be followed by a crossover and MPV on the same platform. Moving over these models, we expect Ford to also bring the latest Ford Focus unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. The next-gen Mondeo could make its appearance as well.
“We are going to bring more global products into the Indian market. We will look at options for Indian customers’ needs out of our global stable,” Ford India’s Managing Director and President, Michael Boneham, told reporters on the occasion of launch of the Figo. He also added that “We plan to launch a new car every 12-18 months, which would include small and medium-sized cars in India.
After spending time as a restricted player in the Indian automobile segment for over a decade, Ford now wants to pull up its socks and go all out to capture the Indian market. Proof of this is their launch of the Figo at a killer price and opening 28 dealerships in a single day. After introducing the Mondeo way back, Ford met with very limited sales due to its high price and maintenance costs. Ford is now trying to project a better image to people with its Figo. The brilliant next-gen Focus sedan combined with Ford’s ecoboost engines that they have promised for India will give it a serious player in the emerging entry-luxury market.
Finally Ford seems to have got its act together with a range of models coming up. This is more good news to the Indian customer.
