Honda Brio – Small car for emerging markets (Codename : 2CV)

Honda showcased their small car concept codenamed 2CV at the Auto Expo 2010. Autoincar claims that the new small car could be named ‘Brio’. The Brio will be Honda’s weapon to take on the fast growing small car segment in emerging markets like India. The Brio could come with a detuned version of the Jazz’s 1.2L engine or a three cylinder version of the same engine displacing 900cc. The Brio will be light and return class leading fuel efficiency. A CVT transmission is also rumoured to join the lineup at a later date.

Sporting futuristic styling (like all Hondas), the Brio could span a sedan version as well. Honda earlier said that they would localise their small car to the maximum possible extent but it could cost a premium over competitors. So, a price of around Rs 5 lakhs sounds realistic. The battle is all set to start between the Japanese big three – Nissan Micra hatch/sedan Vs Toyota Etios hatch/sedan and the Honda Brio hatch/sedan. We need to wait for all six models to slug it out against each other for the outcome. Stay tuned!
