Spied – Honda Jazz/Fit facelift

Honda’s much awaited midlife facelift for the Jazz is  around the corner. The test mule has been snapped in China. The Jazz is a very significant and successful model for Honda worldwide but it hasn’t quite been able to replicate its success in India. Honda say that the Jazz is more expensive to produce than the City. Even then, a price of Rs 8.1 lakhs (on-road for base model in Chennai) puts it out of reach for many. 2 – 3 years ago, we remember Autocar India featuring the Jazz on their cover page and expecting it at Rs 5 lakhs. How things have changed. We do respect the Jazz for it is a brilliant automobile but at that price, we would rather take a City or Linea. The Jazz averages just around 300 units every month.

However, a facelift is coming soon and here are the first spy pictures of the mule. The exterior camouflage seems to be held together by gaffer tape. Normally, Honda only covers the parts that are new (see the spy pictures of Accord facelift here) but the full body camouflage could mean that the upgrades could be a little comprehensive. The front bumpers, rear bumpers, radiator grille and lights will be new and we can expect similar changes in the interiors as well. Also noticeable are the ORVM mounted turn indicators. The engine could get some tweaks to improve fuel economy and reduce harmful CO2 emissions. We feel that Honda are better off bringing the new model to India to improve sales as the future looks bleak for the Jazz at the moment.
