Honda SIEL Cars India launched a new variant of the Jazz called the ‘Select’ in New Delhi priced at Rs 7.21 lakhs (Ex-Delhi). If our readers could recollect, the Jazz bagged the Car of the Year award from NDTV Profit Awards 2010. “The select edition of Honda Jazz would start getting despatched to the Honda dealerships from this week and will be available at the outlets from next week,” it said.
The Select version retains the brilliant 1.2L i-Vtec engine and comes with rear parcel shelf and alloy wheels as standard. Honda also reintroduced its City E variant couple of weeks back. Honda initially discontinued the E variant after Honda thought it would jeopardise the sales of its Jazz which is priced close to the base model of the City. However, with poor demand for the Jazz, Honda has reintroduced the E variant to make sure that the City continues selling well.
Is the Select going to kick-start the sales of the Jazz? We hardly think it has any chance. Priced at 7.2 lakhs, there are much better options like the City E and i20. Honda are better off increasing localisation and reducing the prices of its Jazz or the downfall that has started will not end.
