We predicted two weeks back that Hyundai’s Concept RB would hit Indian roads next year and looks like we are on target. Here are the first spy pictures of Hyundai’s low cost version of the Verna/Avante, named Solaris/Concept RB spied testing somewhere near Kodaikanal hills in Tamilnadu. The new vehicle is heavily disguised and looks to be undergoing high altitude trials. Unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show, the Concept RB/next-generation Verna will make it to India next year and features Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design philosophy.

Powering the RB are next generation power plants that produce 106bhp and 122bhp from 1.4L and 1.6L petrol engines respectively. Also doing duty will be a diesel engine, possibly the latest generation 1.6L CRDi engine or the 90bhp 1.4L from the i20. Sharing engines with the i20 will save costs and Hyundai will be determined to hit the sweet spot in the sedan segment with new entrants like the VW Vento setting a benchmark in the class. The RB gets 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. At the moment, we are not sure if Hyundai will replace the Verna Transform or sell the RB side by side but what we do know is that the RB is not far away.
