Hyundai has launched the i10 facelift in India much before its International debut at the Paris Motor Show next month. The new i10 now packs more features and updated mechanicals and is priced between Rs 3.38 lakhs for the base D-Lite with 1.1L engine to Rs 5.90 lakhs Ex-Showroom for the Asta Automatic Transmission variant. The tweaked engines are now called iRDE2 and Kappa2 and the latter gets VTVT technology which helps it achieve a stunning figure of 20.36km/l according to ARAI standards.

The exteriors as we know now sport the typical Hyundai family look that first made its debut on the new Sonata YF/i40 last year. It has later flowed on to every model in Hyundai’s lineup right up to the i10. There are subtle changes to the rear end like redesigned lights. You get a choice of eight colours on the new i10. Interior colours are new on the new i10 and compared to the earlier all beige ones, you now get a combination of beige and light brown. There are also chrome accents (silver finish) for the music system and AC knobs. Hyundai has also changed the backlighting colour to blue giving it a cool feel and bringing it inline with other Hyundais. The instrument panel loses analogue fuel indicator and engine temperature gauges for a digital setup that comes with all vital details and crucially, a shift-up indicator. What’s more, you even get BLUETOOTH connectivity on the music system. Audio system speakers and a microphone mounted on the roof take care of your calls and all this can be operated from buttons on the steering wheel. The Audio system itself gets Aux-In and USB ports. What’s more, the driver’s seat is now height adjustable. Reverse parking sensors and heated outer rear view mirrors are now a standard fitment on the top of the line model.

Engine specifications and vital figures largely remain the same. The 1.1L SOHC iRDE 2 produces 66.7bhp while the 1.2L Kappa 2 produces 80bhp. The addition of VTVT on the Kappa has improved ARAI fuel efficiency to 20.36km/l. Both engines are mated to 5-speed manual transmissions although there is an option of a 4-speed automatic on the Kappa. Asta is the fully loaded model and comes with every conceivable feature from fog lamps to airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, body coloured door handles and more. However, the gearshift indicator is standard on all models. Turn signals integrated into ORVMs are also confined to the top model only.

With the new i10, Hyundai has loaded the i10 to its gills with every conceivable feature currently offered by the competition (apart from stop-start button and Micra’s trick i-key). Hyundai’s key for the i10 now mimics those on Skodas. The new i10 has taken a leap over the competition and offers what one might need from a small car at a reasonable price. Hyundai have really landed up with a winner now. Scroll above for detailed list of prices.

The Next Gen i10 is truly a next-gen car… So many features!
Posted by Tamanna | September 24, 2010, 6:33 pmThe year was 1967. Hyundai, a 20 year old construction company had decided to establish an automobile assembly plant in Seoul, for assembling the ‘Cortina’ model of Ford, going against the claims of the Korean Industry Ministry that importing a car would be cheaper than assembling it. But Hyundai’s Chung Ju-Yung had different plans. Hence ‘Hyundai Motor Company’ was born, just as a unit for assembling Ford cars. But just in a span of seven years, Hyundai stunned the critics and the first Korean manufactured car, the Pony, rolled out of the Hyundai stable.
Three decades later, Hyundai has established itself as the most aggressive automobile manufacturer the world has seen, capturing every market by with its diverse product portfolio and aggressive marketing tactics. From nowhere, Hyundai has emerged as a serious competitor to almost all automakers around the globe, and with an unparalleled growth rate, went on to become the world’s fifth largest automobile manufacturer.
