Hyundai iX20 Compact MPV unveiled

The official images of Hyundai’s iX20 Compact MPV are out before its public appearance at the Paris Motor Show. Hyundai claims that the new iX20 compact MPV will offer class leading value, low CO2 emissions and high fuel economy. The iX20 is based on the i20 hatchback and is a sister car to the Kia Venga. As with all new Hyundais, the face now sports the trademark hexagonal grille with swept back headlamps. You can observe Hyundai’s styling direction based on ‘Flow’ with every new model. When launched in Europe, the iX20 is expected to offer Air conditioning, ESP, Bluetooth, side and curtain airbags as standard equipment. Hyundai expects no less than a five star Euro-NCAP rating for the iX20.

Engine options include a 1.4L petrol and diesel producing 89bhp. A 1.6L 125bhp model mated to an automatic variant will join the range later. There were initial doubts with the nomenclature as Hyundai uses ‘X’ only for crossovers which turns out to be wrong with the iX20. Only Four wheel drive models end with ‘5’, like iX35. All ix20s, except the entry-level models will get ‘intelligent’ asymmetric eco grille, previewed on the i-flow concept. This grille improves both economy and emissions. iX20 not expected in India though.
