Hyundai’s 800cc car on track

Hyundai’s upcoming 800cc competitor to the Alto is well on track. Hyundai are planning to launch a car under the Santro to take advantage of the low cost car segment, and worry the Alto. Development of Hyundai’s new marvel is already underway at their R&D centre in South Korea. It is expected to be launched at the Auto Expo in 2012. Maruti Suzuki better buckle up (or bring an all new Alto) as they roughly have two more years before which Hyundai take over the Rs 2.5 lakh segment with their 800cc car. Hyundai expect their car to hit 20,000 units every month.

Hyundai also confirmed that the Sante Fe would be launched next month. These details were confirmed by HW Park, who was present at the launch of the new i10. Along with that, Hyundai will increase capacity to 6,70,000 from the current 5,90,000 units per annum by tweaking its manufacturing facility near Chennai. 58% of production is for the Indian market while the rest are exported. HW Park confirmed that there were no confirmed plans for a new plant after the labour unrest it went through recently.  He said

“Right now the domestic demand is very high and we can supply more because we are following a portfolio. So we export less and sell more in the domestic market,” he said. He said, “Hyundai is not considering a new plant because there’s no production constraint right now.”
