Hyundai’s i20 based MPV has been spied testing. Hyundai and Kia share everything from platforms to engines and it was evident that while the Kia released the Venga, Hyundai’s version was just around the corner. Have a look at the Kia Venga below and you can clearly judge the similarities. The only major changes that can be expected are to the nose and the rear end while the interiors will get redone, in keeping with Hyundai’s design language.
Engines will be shared with the i20 and the 1.2 Kappa might not make it owing to the increased mass of the MPV. The base engine could be the 1.4L 90bhp while a 1.6L GDi producing 126bhp could be the most powerful engine of the range. A 1.4L diesel will be available in two states of tune 75bhp and 90bhp. A 1.6L diesel with 128bhp will round off the range.
The new MPV will get EcoDynamics package consisting of Start-Stop, low rolling resistance tires, a gear shift indicator, electronic steering, braking regeneration and an intelligent alternator that recharges only when necessary. Hyundai will unveil the i20 MPV at the Paris Motor Show in October and will compete against the likes of the upcoming MPVs from Maruti and Nissan’s MPV based on the V-platform. Will it come to India? Hyundai has met with immense success in India with the i-series and we feel Hyundai should bring this model to India as well.
