This is the F1 track that India will get, Wheelosphere can reveal. This is the next big step for Indian motorsports as it makes its entry into the elite club of F1. The previous new entrants were Abu Dhabi, Shanghai and Bahrain. The track is designed by F1 legendary track designer Hermann Tilke and features what one would call two loops.
The circuit will come up at the Jaypee Greens Sports City and features now trademark Hermann Tilke’s long straight followed by a tight corner, but unlike his other designs, this track features long flowing corners that the others were missing. But critics says Indian F1 track shares close similarities with Istanbul track. However, like others, it does have a small percentage of tight corners as well and it looks to be a good combination of all the ingredients required from a perfect F1 track.
There is one good thinking and that is the track can be widely split into two loops – the shorter twistier one and the longer one more like the ovals found in USA. This can host different types of local and international motorsports especially the upcoming VW Polo cup in 2011. With F1 rules making it an even field, there are increase opportunities for overtaking, something F1 car designers have been demanding recently.
What the track map does not reveal though are the gradients and bankings if any that are present on the track. The track is quite short and is just under 5Km long (3.1 miles). The only tracks that are shorter than this are - the Circuit de Catalunya, Hungaroring, Interlagos and Monte-Carlo.
Business conglomerate Jaypee group holds responsibility in completing the track that is coming up alongside the Yamuna expressway as the map indicates. The expressway connects India’s wonder, the Taj Mahal from Delhi and such an expressway is also mandatory to transport the drivers and the equipment from Airport. Once completed, this would be India’s international gateway and the best part – It will be Force India’s home GP!
The track would also help India host a host of other events – The A1 GP, Moto GP, Touring cars, Asia level events and so on. As we mentioned, India will get a big recognition in the world level and more importantly, the local talent have a big inspiration in front of them. The Government’s sports minister Manohar Singh Gill has refused to support the event telling F1 is not a sport. Ecclestone dismissed the minister’s comments saying: “That’s his view. The rest of the world thinks it is a sport.”
The event has had its fair share of difficulties that it had to pass through. It was first slated for a 2010 spot and now pushed back by one year. Looking at the progress for commonwealth games, it does raise a few eyebrows if this project could be finished on time but then Jaypee should not be taken lightly. If Jaypee group stand upto their corporate tag line”No dream Too Big” we will be able to watch live actions in our very own F1 Track by 2011.
