Indian GP – New details emerge

We have got some good news for F1 fans about the Indian GP.  First thing is that the track is well, on track and is coming up in Jaypee Green Sports City, about 32km from the National Capital, New Delhi. The track, which was designed by F1 Circuit design Guru Hermann Tilke has undergone modifications to make it even more exciting. Scheduled for a 2011 debut, the track twists and turns through 16 corners covering 5.1km a lap. The track largely contains medium speed corners where F1 cars would lap at an average speed of 210km/h.

The track design has undergone a revision – Turn 3 is now wider so that F1 cars can go side by side adding to overtaking and drama which then continues onto the long back straight good for 320km/h before slowing down for turn 4, again a great sport for out-braking and overtaking. After lots of analysis and simulations, race organisers have decided to modify turn 7 in order to maximise overtaking opportunities leading to the banked corner 10. Grand Stands of capacity 13,000 welcome the cars at turns 10 and 11. The impressively designed main grandstand will house 30,000 spectators bringing the total capacity to over 120,000. Moreover, race organisers believe that selling tickets wont be a problem as local hero Karun and local team Force India are competing. Track boss Mark Hughes said “Karun’s presence on the F1 grid has certainly whipped up a lot of interest in India.”The feedback from the teams has also been very encouraging and we hope the race will speak for itself,” he added.
