Ferrari’s Massa is back to the top of the timing sheets after the team’s absence in the first part of tests at Jerez last week. All eyes were on Lotus f1, the newest team on the block. Lotus’ test driver Fairuz Fauzy gave the T127 its first serious taste of a racing circuit and set a time of 1:34.396s which was way off the pace but is understandable as he had done very few laps. Lotus had earlier tested at the Silverstone circuit. Lotus pipped Virgin narrowly to take the 10th spot.
Fauzy initially ran an installation lap and pitted prior to beginning a longer run, during which he has already narrowly pipped Virgin Racing driver Timo Glock’s best effort, although Glock too had run very few laps. Fauzy will remain in the car for the rest of the day before handing over to Heikki Kovalainen for the next two days. Jarno Trulli then has his first run for Lotus on Saturday.
