Mahindra-Renault’s Logan which has met with limited success due to its bland styling and high price, will come in a new avatar. Christened Logan Tourer, it will be launched at the Auto Expo with prices starting at Rs 5.5lakh for both the petrol and diesel versions.
Logan Tourer has been conceptualised and co-branded in collaboration with baggage maker VIP. So is this just another half-hearted attempt to create a special edition of the Logan or is it the facelifted one? Going by what the company statement reads, it will be a special edition. What really is needed is the facelifted version that Mahindra-Renault are so hesitant in bringing to India.
While a jump in sales is not assured if the facelifted Logan is launched, it could improve sales. Renault needs to bring in the Sandero hatchback to India under its own sales network if it has any idea of capturing the Indian market. One way is to share the sales and service networks with Nissan that already has a firm plan in place. With competition from Toyota’s Etios and Logan nowhere on the radar, desperate measures are needed. Lets wait and see what Renault do.
