Mahindra and Mahindra, India’s leading utility vehicle manufacturer today unveiled XUV500 in India. Mahindra XUV500 comes in three variants, namely W6,W8 and W8-AWD. The entry level XUV500 comes at Rs 10.80 lakh and the fully loaded version carries a Rs 11.95 lakh price tag. The XUV500 AWD is priced at Rs.12.88 lakhs ( all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Company officials indicated that these prices may get revised in two-three months after considering commodity prices. Mahindra will be launching XUV500 in South Africa tomorrow.
XUV500 is completely developed in Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) Chennai. XUV500 comes with a 2.2ltr mHawk engine which is mated to a six speed manual gear box. The engine have been tuned to bring 140bhp peak power with 330Nm maximum torque. The engine employs 5th Generation Variable Geometry Turbocharger to boost it’s power output. Company claims, XUV500 has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 15.1Km/ltr. Mahindra has packed XUV500 with goodies to make it a value for money product.
Specification of Mahindra XUV500 is way ahead of it’s competition. It comes with an All Wheel Drive with Interactive Torque Management; 6” touch screen Infotainment System with GPS, DVD, CD, MP3, FM, USB, iPod connectivity; Driver Information System, Micro Hybrid technology; Fully Automatic Temperature Control with dual HVAC; Static-bending projector headlamps with LED parking lights; Voice Commands, Cruise & Audio Controls on steering wheel; Smart Rain & Light sensors; Tyretronics (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System); intellipark (Reverse Parking Assist System); Power-foldable and adjustable ORVMs. Some of them are segment first technologies and will clearly make Mahindra XUV500 a winner in the segment.
The comfort and convenience features include a set of leather seats, flat-folding 2nd and 3rd row seats, eight way adjustment for driver, mood lighting and telescopic steering. Mahindra has included Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Rollover Mitigation, 6 Airbags (front, side and curtain) ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill Hold Control & Hill Descent Control in safety department.
The Mahindra XUV500 is expected to debut in many other overseas markets including Australia, South and Central America, Western Europe and SAARC countries.
Mahindra XUV500 will be available in five major cities(Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune) in India from 1-October–2011. Mahindra XUV500 will reach in other cities in two-three months time.
Mahindra XUV500 looks like a value for money product and expected to attract aspiring SUV buyers with under 15lakh budget. XUV500 is expected to give a tough time for competition especially for products like Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and Ford Endeavour.
Anyways we need to wait to see how the competition is going to react to Mahindra XUV500’s shocking pricing.
