Maruti Eeco, the reincarnation of Maruti Versa launched at Rs.2.6lacs. Probably Maruti Versa could be the only Maruti vehicle which could not strike chord with Indian customers other than Baleno. Understanding this situation Maruti opt for re-launching Versa in new name with a new engine. Maruti Eeco more or less similar to Versa in mechanicals except the engine. But the most attractive point of Maruti Eeco could be, the really cheap price tag.
The Maruti Eeco is available in three trim levels, the price varies between Rs.2.6lacs and Rs.2.8lacs. The Eeco comes in both five seater and seven seater configuration. This new Maruti MPV is powered by a 1.2ltr engine which can develop 73bhp at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 101Nm at 3000rpm. Maruti claims Eeco engine is fuel efficient compared to other vehicle in this segment and the complete vehicle has been designed by keeping Indian road conditions in mind.
Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, “Eeco performs the twin objectives of being a spacious family car and a dependable vehicle to run businesses. Maruti Suzuki engineers have especially developed the Eeco, its new powerful engine, and a new transmission system to meet the diverse consumer aspirations that look for a vehicle that fits a large family and at the same time provides flexibility for dual use. Towards this objective, Eeco will be a new powerful attraction.”
Maruti engineers have been coupled a five speed manual gear box to Eeco’s 1200cc engine to return better fuel efficiency. The gear box with Diagonal Shift Assistance(DSA) to make easy diagonal gear shifting during diagonal movement of the vehicle. Other than above mentioned features Maruti Eeco is eco-friendly as well. The engine is now compliant to BS-IV standards and Eeco has been built with keeping non-eco friendly materials like Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Chromium under permissible limits. Maruti will soon display an electric powered Eeco named Eco-Charge for Indian market during upcoming commonwealth games.
So Maruti with launch of Eeco solved two problems, one Maruti has to discontinue Omni in metro cities of India soon second Versa was doing nothing good for Maruti. So with the launch Eeco, by using same tooling of Versa, Maruti replaced old and polluting Omni with Eeco and now offering an all new Versa. So good option for a mid-sized family, right?

Dear Kulgeet,
Seems you have examined every nook and corners of Maruti Eeco. Were you waiting to purchase Maruti Eeco and dropped the idea after seeing it in flesh?
If the car (Maruti EECO) is seen from front and examine vertically to its body look, the lower part of the model from mid half is narrow. If the lower part from mid half would be made wide or say not to bend inward and make it straight up to the lower portion and make the wheel base more wide it will look more bold vehicle. By that new look it will be more appreciated by young people groups for a STYLISH MUV.
So I request the Maruti EECO engineers to follow it soon and improve according to that by which its demand will definietely increase.
