Hot, hotter, hottest right now is the totally naked spy-shot of Maruti Suzuki’s all new upcoming MPV, now we know the name, ‘ERTIGA’. This MUV was spied previously also, but not up to this extent.
Spy-shots of the Ertiga has surfaced on the web today, also displaying the MPV’s name badge. The Ertiga looks like based on the Ritz’s platform. It’s grille and bonnet also gives look like that of Ritz. This MPV does look very compact, but it has been deifinitely stretched enough to give it a comfortable 3-row seating. This is a people-mover, and that means additional space, so Maruti has stretched the wheelbase to 2740mm, up by 380mm on the Ritz, and the roof is higher. The top variant spied, has beige interiors, steering wheel and the dashboard, both are just like the 2011 Swift.
Though the MPV looks much like a hatchback, it is much more wider and spacious than that. The headlights look like a combination of the ones from Ritz and the 2011 Swift. Sources report of the MPV having no Electronic Climate Control or Roof Mounted Blower for the second and third row cooling. The rear lights are the opposite of the front ones, very small and tiny, not good for distance visibility. All thanks to cost-cutting!
The stretched wheelbase and the additional third row seats have pushed the length of the Ertiga to 4265mm, well over the critical four-metre length and this wont allow the Ertiga to enjoy the lower excise duty benefit for small cars. Though, what is more important than pricing in this segment cars is the space, and then secondary is the price. So, we can say Maruti Engineers have not just made a dumb Compact, cut from rear car just to get excise benefit, instead it is clearly focusing on giving appropriate spacing in the MPV.
The next big thing to know is that along with the Maruti Suzuki’s first MPV debut in India, also another great thing to debut is the K14 petrol engine which the Ertiga will sport. This will be the largest K-series engine from Maruti Suzuki yet. The 1.4L(1372cc) VVT K14 churns out good enough 95bhp. Well it is good, but not too good as compare to the new K12 with VVT in the 2011 Swift with 90bhp. What we are saying is that, a 1.2L already brings out 90bhp, then obviously there is no goodness in a relatively larger engine, 1.4L K14 with VVT, bringing just 5bhp more power. Well, maybe it is for the engine efficiency in this country of highly surging fuel prices.
The Ertiga will also a Diesel heart, the most famous right now, 1.3L DDiS withVariable Geometry Turbo making decent 89bhp power. This is the same engine that currently Maruti Suzuki is offering on the 2011 Swift, Swift Dzire and also the SX4.
The Ertiga surely will be a perfect family car, self-driven for pleasure and quality assured just like all Maruti Suzuki cars are. Ertiga will officially debut at the 2012 Auto Expo, New Delhi. The Ertiga will be very well localized and is expected to be priced in between INR 6.5-8.5 lacs.
