Maruti Suzuki’s desperation to retain market share shows in every action they take. It all started with an alarming sign of things to come – Maruti’s market share for the first time dipped below 50% thanks to several launches from rival automakers in the form of the Figo, Beat and Polo. To consolidate its share, Maruti launched the Alto K10 followed by A-star automatic, five CNG cars and their latest launch is the SX4 Royale. The SX4 never really took off thanks to its petrol engine which was low on fuel economy. Maruti never really tried to launch the SX4 diesel and their only attempt was a facelifted SX4 with automatic transmission and a Variable valve timing which also failed to allure customers. Maruti’s latest attempt is the SX4 Royale. Can it do the trick for Maruti?

The SX4 Royale is available in two variants – VXi and ZXi apart from the non-Royale variants. The top of the range model comes with Dual SRS airbags, Alloy Wheels, ABS (Anti Lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), Audio controls on steering wheel, fog lights, body-colored door moulding, Automatic climate control system and Silver finished handles while the lower end Royale just gets leather clad steering wheel, gear knob and seat covers. As expected, the SX4 Royale is mechanically the same.
With powerful competition in sight – VW Vento, facelifted Verna, Etios sedan, Skoda Fabia sedan and Nissan Micra sedan coming over the next one year, all that Maruti can do is pack more features in the SX4, label it as a special edition and sell it at a competitive price till the new SX4 (with a diesel engine) arrives sometime in early 2012.

Maruti has done a wonderful job in providing the best ride quality for SX4. The suspension is velvetty avoiding almost all jerks from entering into the cabin. even the engine noise is unheard at higher speeds. If you are looking for a value for money luxurious sedan, go for SX4, with Maruti’s service back up and superb resale value, you can buy SX4 without any worries.
