After initial resistance to governments proposal to make the fuel efficiency disclosure mandatory, now car makers started bowing down to the pressure.Today Maruti Suzuki announced they will be disclosing the fuel efficiency of their cars at dealer end.
Earlier government had directed all car manufacturers to disclose the fuel efficiency in terms of star rating which endorsed by a certifying authority by April-2009.Also following certifying authorities were named for same,Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) and International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT).
But Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures(SIAM) expressed their dissent to this proposal citing technical reasons. Now it seems Maruti has changed their mind.It was evident from their A-Star launch occasion, they made public that the rated fuel efficiency of the car is 19.59Km/Ltr. They said this claim is backed by ARAI.
This is definitely a step that consumer fraternity must appreciate. One manufacturer need immense courage and confidence to do this. Now Maruti has set another bench mark for their fellows, let us see who is the next one to join the league.
