Mercedes Benz E-Cell Challenges Chevrolet Volt

Mercedes  Benz is moving fast on  electric hybrid road map.Mercedes is now ready with their latest offering in  plug-in hybrid vehicle segment.Mercedes is planning to display the electric hybrid car called E-Cell Plus is upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.This plug-in hybrid is the third entrant of Mercedes Benz Blue Zero Brand.

Mercedes Benz E-Cell Plus will be primary  power is from electric motors and a powerful electric powerhouse has been  planned for charging the battery.This internal combustion engine is adopted from Benz’s own Smart for two small car.It is a three cylinder 1.0ltr turbo charged engine with max power of 35KW at 3500rpm.

Mercedes says E-Cell Plus can cover 100km on complete electric mode and a total distance of 600kms.Same figures for Chevrolet Volt is 64kms and 483kms, which is much lower than Mercedes E-Cell.The electric power is installed at rear  end of the vehicle.The lithium-ion  battery cache with maximum capacity of 100Kw can deliver 70Kw during normal operation constantly.The Benz E-Cell Plus can achieve 100km/hr speed from stand still within 11 seconds,(that is promising when comparing to other city cars and hybrids).

One hour is sufficient to fully charge the Lithium Ion battery of Mercedes Benz E-Cell Plus.In fast charge mode the battery can be charged 50% by spending 30mins,obviously one can drive up to 50kms on half charged battery.The pre-production of this hybrid will happen in 2010,Chevrolet Volt is also planning to start the commercial production in 2010.Let us watch who will emerge as the winner of this plug in battle.
