Mercedes Benz will launch the final incarnation of the present generation M-Class, called the Grand Edition. As the name suggests, the Grand Edition will be fully loaded with kit like 19-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, thermal insulation glass, dark-tinted headlamps, AMG radiator grille and under guards, aluminium roof rails for the exterior, ambient lighting, new wood trim parts and Artico man-made leather upholstery for the interiors.
The Grand Edition is aimed at those looking at smaller SUVs like the Q5 and X3. Mercedes does not currently have a smaller SUV as the GLK* is only available in LHD. Mercedes are tempting such buyers with a fully loaded, full size SUV at a reduced price. The M-Class is expected to cost Rs 5 lakhs more than the normal version. The Grand Edition will finally make way to the third generation M-class that is currently under development.
*The GLK was engineered from the beginning as a 4WD model and the drivetrain has been positioned in such a way that making a RHD version was impossible.
