Mitsubishi has released the updated Outlander with two new diesel engines for the UK market. The 2011 Model year Outlander can be specified with either a Mitsubishi developed 2.2L Di-D turbodiesel producing 175bhp and mated to a six speed manual gearbox or a 154bhp variant of the same engine mated to a twin clutch automated manual transmission. Moving further down the driveline, customers are given an option of buying their diesel Outlander with two wheel drive (only available on 175bhp variant). The higher powered variant returns 16.4km/l in two wheel drive guise and 15.4km/l in four wheel drive guise. Prices start from Rs 14 lakhs (at current exchange rates) in the UK.
The diesel Outlander is what Mitsubishi needs to take on the might of the Captiva, Fortuner and Endeavour in India. At the moment, we are not sure if Mitsubishi has any plans to launch the diesel Outlander in India. However, stay tuned to Wheelosphere for more updates.
