Murano Diesel launched in Europe; On its way to India?

Nissan has launched a diesel version of its Murano Crossover in Europe. We would like to add that Nissan also added a brand new 3.0L V6 diesel engine to its Infiniti range of vehicles in Europe and USA. In keeping with the times, a more efficient diesel engine will provide both Infiniti and the Murano with a much needed boost in appeal and sales.

The engine on offer is a 2.5L 4-cyl which puts out close to 190bhp and a massive 332 lb-ft of torque. The updated Common-rail system now injects fuel at 2000bar as opposed to 1800bar of the earlier engine. Moreover, the variable vane turbochargers that are used in this engine are actuated by electric system in place of a conventional hydraulic setup. The power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed gearbox. Americans get the 3.5L Petrol V6.

The Question of the day – Will the Murano succeed in India?

The Murano is USA is priced starting from $28,500 which in today’s exchange rate means Rs 12,96,750 for the base model in USA. The top end model retails for approximately $36,000 (Rs 16,38,000). So if Nissan decide to take the CKD route, then the Murano might range between Rs 25-30 lakhs (considering an expensive diesel engine) which is a great price for this big SUV that has loads of presence. If it is imported fully, then we can expect poor sales. So we hope Nissan takes the right decision and prices this American Bling Machine competitively. Moreover, CKD operations would also help the X-trail and Teana clock more numbers as their prices would reduce by as much as 5-6 lakhs. Rest is up to you Nissan.
