No matter how much Mr. Amitabh Bachan tried to convince us, the Maruti Versa never met with the sort of response that Maruti would have expected. A cut price challenger to the Qualis and the Innova was never going to win any share with a 1.3L petrol engine. Maruti is in the process of upgrading the Versa, to meet the Bharat Stage-4 emission norms with hopefully a new engine.
The 1.2L K series engine might be the obvious choice but what we can suggest Maruti is to slot in the excellent 1.3MJT and see the Versa sell like hot cakes. Well, Maruti should have thought about this idea but this is just to remind them in case they have forgotten about it. The new series of petrol engines would never help sales of the Versa and Maruti are better off killing the model than risking the investment for a new petrol engine. So, if it was a new model the ugly APV would ruin the reputation that the Versa presently has. So a facelifted Versa with 1.3 MJT please!
